Workshop “International and National Hydrogen Certifications
based on Carbon Content”

0 minutos de leitura

Hydrogen as an energy carrier for different uses is becoming a very interesting alternative in Latin America and worldwide as an enhancer to increase energy security and to contribute to a sustainable energy transition and decarbonisation potential. For the development of a low carbon hydrogen economy in Brazil, certification plays a critical role, as it provides the possibility of furnishing third-party proof of climate-friendly sustainable hydrogen production. This should build on existing, nationally, and internationally certification accepted approaches to facilitate local use and export to hydrogen consumer countries, so that Brazil can optimize its market opportunities.

Objective

The objective of the Workshop is to exchange on the current status quo of national and international low-carbon hydrogen certification approaches and provide information to Task Force members on the Brazilian private sector’s perspective of the criteria’s feasibility of the certification schemes under discussion.

Building on international experience, the requirements for hydrogen certification systems will be discussed with participants and discussed about current international requirements of (potential) hydrogen importing countries and the local market.

The discussion will be aligned with the proposed guidelines for the National Hydrogen Program (PNH2).

The online workshop will take place on May 3rd, from 9:00 to 10:45.

Event: Workshop “Certificações Internacionais e Nacionais de Hidrogênio com base no teor de carbono” / Workshop “International and National Hydrogen Certification based on Carbon Content”

Date: May 3rd 2022

The initiative is part of the German-Brazilian Energy Partnership Project, coordinated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action  (BMWK), together with the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Energy Research Company (EPE). The workshop counts on the cooperation of the H2Brazil Project; commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).  Both projects are implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.  The event is organized in association with the consultancy NIRAS, and supported by the Green Hydrogen Alliance Brazil-Germany, the German-Brazilian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
